Empty Arms Ministry Mission Statement:
The Empty Arms Ministry is dedicated to providing care, council and encouragement in a Christian setting to parents who have suffered through the death of their baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth and infant death.
Ministry Scripture Verse:
2 Corinthians, 1:3-5 (Living)
"What a wonderful God we have -- he is the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the source of every mercy, and the one who so wonderfully comforts and strengthens us in our hardships and trials. And why does he do this? So that when others are troubled, needing our sympathy and encouragement. we can pass on to them this same help and comfort God has given us."
Group Information:
This support group has a structured eight week curriculum and are led by couples who have lost children in one or more of the very difficult ways described above. Our groups strive to meet the emotional needs of grieving parents in a safe and loving environment, to provide comfort and support. Our goal is to facilitate the grief process by helping members acknowledge and understand their feelings and realize the hope we have in Jesus Christ. Empty Arms Facilitator Profiles:
Rick and Karen lost their son, Matthew, to heart disease two days after his birth, and suffered a subsequent miscarriage one year later. These experiences have helped Rick and Karen guide hurting parents through the grieving process. They now have two children.
Jim and Amy suffered through three miscarriages and the devastating loss of their son Gavin , was stillborn at 36 weeks. They got through such a painful time by relying on their faith and from the amazing support of Empty Arms. "It helped restore our hope and have the courage to try again." God worked a miracle in their lives by bringing them a healthy baby boy in 2004 and then a baby girl. Their desire is to help and encourage grieving parents through the Empty Arms Ministry.

Group Member Comments:
** "I wasn't quite sure what to expect, since I had never attended a support group meeting before. The group was great and I would recommend it to anyone who has lost a baby. It met my needs by helping me not to feel so alone in my pain and it taught me about the grief process."
** "I liked meeting other people that were going through the same experiences and hurting like me. It was very helpful for my grieving. Great support! The facilitators were awesome! God bless them for their dedication!"
** "I liked that it was a small enough group to share private feelings; others in the group were compassionate and understanding."
** "I wasn't sure what I expected, however, it turned out to be very positive and provided a good forum to talk openly without concern that the others wouldn't understand. I liked the openness, honesty and confidentiality of the group. There wasn't anything I didn't like."
** "I really didn't know what to expect from this group, but it was more than I could have hoped for. I was overwhelmed with emotions I thought were dealt with. I wish I had gone through this group three years ago when I first lost my baby."
** "The leaders were very compassionate, sincere and did a wonderful job. I would recommend this group to anyone who has experienced this type of loss."
** "The group was great! It really helped to be with others who were going through the same feelings, emotions, pain, etc. It was healing to be able to share our story and feelings with people that understood what we were going through. The topics shared really helped in our communication and made it easier to talk with one another."
** "Before coming to this group I couldn't find the energy or will to get out of bed. I like that each week had a topic. I felt the agenda helped pull me to the next level and my husband and I gained focus in our healing. The impact of this support group may not be immediate, but it is very valuable in the months to come."
** "This group was a life saver for me. I highly recommend attending the
Empty Arms Support Group, and encourage people to seek help after that loss. I felt a closeness that I can't describe with the group because they had also lost children. Thank you for offering a class like this. I hope more parents take advantage of this support group."
