What is a Workplace Small Group and how is it different from other small group types?

Q1: What is a Workplace Small Group?

A1: A small group of people focused on learning how to be more like Christ in the workplace...

  1. meets in the workplace during non-working business hours.
  2. meets in the workplace or other location before or after hours with co-workers.
  3. like minded like work focused people, such as labor and professional workers who meet in a neutral location such as a coffee shop.
  4. discusses topics and curriculum relevant to our work life.
  5. focus on workplace issues and honoring God in and through our work and work relationships.

Q2: Is it the same format and length as a typical Saddleback small group?

A2: It follows the Saddleback format of small groups balancing all the five purposes, but Workplace small groups tend to be shorter in duration, 30 minutes or more and focused on Workplace topics.

Q3: Should I stop going to my current small group?

A3: It is important to be involved in the areas where you are being spiritually fed. Workplace small groups are not intended to replace other small groups but rather supplement those small groups. Workplace small groups are the means for co-workers to come together to address work-related issues and opportunities, support each other in your worklife and to honor and glorify God at work even when it isn’t easy.

Q4: What if I don’t belong to a small group already?

A4: You don’t need to belong to a small group in order to join or start a workplace group. Most of our time during the week is spent at work and your place of work could be an office building, on the road or at a construction site. If you aren’t in a small group and you work, this would be a great first step.
