Cotui Plan Pilota
The FUEL team just returned to our home base from a two-day trip to Cotui. It is a rural town about three hours away from Santo Domingo. We worked to improve the Christian elementary school, which needed bathrooms installed, fresh paint on the floors, new windows, and updated desks and chairs. The Pastor who started the school grew up in the DR and then went to seminary school in Cleveland, Ohio. After he became a Pastor, he felt God calling him to return to the DR to bring education to the poorest areas of his native country. So, he and his wife bought land in Cotui five years ago and have made this Christian school their mission. Currently, the school teaches up to fourth grade, but they hope to expand to fifth grade soon.
Most of the children in Cotui are not well supervised because there is a huge drug and alcohol problem in the community. Their parents do not watch over them, so they just run around in the streets. The school that Pastor Pablo started with his wife is a beacon of light in a community that is depressed and in the deepest poverty one could imagine.
Our time in Cotui was well spent and we definitely felt God working through us. On our way back to Santo Domingo, four of our team members became ill. Please pray for them and the health of our team. One of them might have to go to the ER if his temperature continues to increase.
We look forward to another great day tomorrow. We will be going to a Leper colony in the morning and will be setting up a medical clinic in Pantoha in the afternoon.
Dios Te Bendiga!
