Olympians train alone and in community. They dedicate years of their life to their sport. People like Phelps, Franklin, Douglas, Lochte, and others have invested their entire lives for the moment to compete in the Olympics. Think about years of training coming down to a single competition. Most human beings have not trained for something so big because most people don’t like to say no to things. No is a small word, but a hard word to say.
Gabby Douglas had to say no to many things in order to get the gold this past week. We usually say yes to more Netflix, more soda, more food, more Facebook, and more fun, but that is why most of us are not Olympians.
The reality is God has made a way for all of us to have a relationship with Him, but most people have a hard time giving God control of their life. They want to live like a god rather than listen to God.
On the Internet Campus we know figuring out how to live out your faith in your unique context is tough. This is why we value community. Community is where your faith will become real and personal.
Who you do life with is who shapes you the most. Proverbs 1:15-16 expresses how your closes friends either drag you down or pick you up. If you want to be like Jesus and really treat Jesus Christ as your true Savior, then you need to get into a community.
Just like an Olympian you will need to start saying no to your old ways, but just like a gold medalist, in the end, you will experience a life full of eternal peace and true joy through saying yes to God.
Email Jayk@saddleback.com to get into a community to start the next phase of your spiritual walk.
We are looking forward to hearing from you and learning more about your story.
